Mangaluru, (DHNS): Urban Development Minister U T Khader directed Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil to resolve the issue over headscarf in St Agnes College through mutual dialogue.

Speaking to reporters on Saturday, he said that it is a sensitive issue.

“The issue should be resolved through dialogue. The district administration has been directed to resolve the issue without disturbing the harmony,” said Khader.

St Agnes is a prestigious institution wherein free education is imparted to girl students from poorbackground as well. The issue should be sorted out without tarnishing the image of the college.

It is not right to level charges against an institute for political purpose, he added.

The district administration should come to a conclusion after verifying the rules and regulations from the department and the institute.

“I am a politician. Any politician or a political party or an organisation should not intervene in this matter. As a result, I will not take a decision directly. The district administration should consult educational institution, students, parents, and officials. No outsider should be involved,” he said.

To a question on a student receiving threat call for not supporting the cause of headscarf, the minister said strict action should be initiated against those who have issued such a threat. “The concerned student should file a complaint with the police immediately.

Action should be initiated against those who have been trying to tarnish the image of the educational institution and students through social media. I have already directed the police personnel in this regard,” Khader said.
