Mangaluru (The Hindu): Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (DKMUL) Ltd. will release “Trupti” milk in flexi packs, which can be preserved without refrigeration for 90 days, on Tuesday. DKMUL will be the first milk union in the State to supply milk in flexi packs.

The “Trupti” brand of milk will be available in 500 ml packets, which are similar to Nandini ghee packets. Each packet will be priced at Rs. 20.

Talking to presspersons here on Saturday, union chairman Raviraj Hegde said that the “Trupti” brand of milk would come from the new flexi pack milk plant and new product block set up at a cost of Rs. 28 crore in Kulashekara here. Mr. Hegde said that the excess milk procured from farmers would be sterilised at about 140 degrees Celsius and then packed in a five-layered flexi film. The “Trupti” milk contains 3.5 per cent fat. Apart from milk parlours, the “Trupti” milk would be available at grocery shops. DKMUL managing director B.V. Satyanarayana said that the flexi pack plant had a capacity of producing 60,000 litres of “Trupti” milk packets a day. “It can process the excess 10,000 litres of milk procured every day by the union. The Mysuru Milk Union wants to use this plant for processing nearly one lakh litres of milk and sell it in flexi packs in its region,” he said.

Mr. Satyanarayana said that the union was planning to sell “Trupti” milk in Kerala, Goa, north eastern States and in Jammu and Kashmir.

The union will also launch curd in 500 ml packets. Mr. Hegde said that there was demand from customers for 500 ml packets.
