District Stadium will get better facilities: Sorake

Published On : 13 Sep 2015

Udupi (The Hindu): Two-day rural and Dasara sports meet begins. Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake has said all efforts are being made to provide better facilities to sportspersons in the district.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day district-level rural and Dasara sports meet organised by the District Administration, here on Saturday.

Mr. Sorake said sportspersons should persist to achieve success. The last three years had seen a host of new facilities being provided at the District Stadium.

“We want girls and boys, who win in the district-level sports meet, to later participate and win in State and national-level sports tournaments,” he said.

Presiding over the inaugural function, Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, said a large amount of money had been spent in providing state-of-the-art facilities at the District Stadium.

Budding athletes should come to the District Stadium on weekends and practise, instead of just during sports tournames, he said.

P. Yuvaraj, President of Udupi City Municipal Council, said all students should remember that participation in a game is more important than wining. Mere participation went a long way in inculcating sportsmen spirit, he said.

Roshan Kumar Shetty, Assistant Director of Sports and Youth Empowerment, welcomed the gathering.

Katapady Shankar Poojary, Ida Gibba D’Souza, Zilla Panchayat members, Prakash Kodavoor, Vice President of State Badminton Association, Dinesh Puthran, member of the organising committee, were present.
