Mysuru, (DHNS): A 38-year-old debt-ridden farmer, also JD(S) party worker, allegedly committed suicide even as Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy was at Pandava Stadium in the town campaigning for Mandya Lok Sabha byelection, on Saturday.

Kumar (38) the deceased, fell into the VC Canal, which flows near the stadium, where Kumaraswamy was addressing the gathering. Though the people, who noticed Kumar, shifted him to a hospital, the doctors declared him brought dead.

While Kumar’s father-in-law Ravi filed a case stating that he fell into the canal accidentally, his wife Sumalatha claimed that he was debt-ridden and thus, committed suicide. Kumaraswamy sustained a minor injury on his finger in the left hand during his visit to the government hospital to pay his last respects to Kumar. However, the doctors treated the chief minister immediately.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Saturday continued his displeasure against a section of the media for allegedly misleading the people over his health and said, “I will live for 85 years”.

During his byelection campaign in Pandavapura, Kumaraswamy said, “People should not believe false reports.”
