Bengaluru, DHNS: A mobile fish kiosk was inaugurated on Thursday at Matsyadarshini in Cubbon Park by Fisheries Minister Pramod Madhwaraj. The Karnataka Fisheries Development Corporation Ltd launched the facility on an experimental basis under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.

The vehicle stores and sells different varieties of fish. The vehicle, a modified mini truck, is equipped with an overhead water tank, chiller and has space for dry and wet waste. The entire unit costs about Rs 12 lakh. Syed Iftekhar Ahmed, marketing manager of KFDC, said, “We have not decided which area the vehicle will cover but it will be introduced in north Bengaluru to begin with.” Madhwaraj inspected the vehicle and appreciated the work of the corporation.

A similar mobile kiosk selling sea food called ‘Mobile Matsyadarshini’ was launched in Mangaluru during the Matsya Mela in March. Serving Kadri Park and Pilikula Nisargadhama areas, the vehicle sells food worth between Rs 12,000 and Rs 15,000 a day.

Based on the success of the two units, more such vehicles will be introduced in different parts of the state.
