Manipal (The Hindu): The eighth edition of the Formula Manipal racing car, designed by the students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), a constituent of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), was launched here on Wednesday. There are 70 students from different branches of engineering from different semesters who work as part of the team, which is into making formula style single seater race car, titled Formula Manipal.

The team started in 2007 by students inspired and driven by their passion to build a race car. They have been making these race cars for a decade now. Every year, the team redesigns the car from scratch to get the most optimal design.

The first such car was completed in 2008 which participated in FS Italy. It received appreciation from experts in the automotive industry. Since then, this team has been pushing the boundaries of engineering every year, and taking the car to different parts of the world to compete with teams of other colleges.

The racing cars built by the team have set multiple records.

“It is good to see how this team functions and overcomes multiple challenges to put together the car for the season,” said Vinod Thomas, Registrar (Evaluation), MAHE, who launched the car.

This year, the team is celebrating the 10th anniversary with the debut of its first electric race car as a collective effort to support green and clean energy.
