Mangaluru, (The Hindu): Fares of private express, mofussil and city buses have been hiked with effect from April 17. The decision was taken during a meeting between officers of the Transport Department and Canara Bus Operators Association here on Monday.

Kuilady Suresh Nayak, general secretary of Canara Bus Operators Association, and Ramesh Vernekar, Senior Regional Transport Officer, said here that there would be an increase in surcharge of  1 per ticket up to 20 km and an increase in surcharge of  2 per ticket above 20 km. This increase also took into account the amount paid at toll plazas.

The representatives of the association pointed out that the fares of diesel had increased nearly 10 times since 2016, while the prices of spare parts and salaries of staff had increased making a hike inevitable, said Mr. Nayak.
