Bengaluru, (DHNS): Imposition of Hindi has led to destruction of regional languages and the policy of “one language and one religion” has threatened the federal structure of the country, said Kannada Development Authority chairman S G Siddaramaiah on Saturday.

He was speaking at a session on 'Globalisation and Privatisation: Dalits and Oppressed' organised as part of Dr B R Ambedkar International Conference. "Hindi is making its way into the education sector. People should rise to protect regional languages if they want to protect the federal system," he said.

Expressing concern about privatisation of education, he said the government's efforts were limited.

"Students who join private institutes under Right to Education quota suffer discrimination which leads to inferiority complex. Instead of paying Rs 400 crore every year to private schools, the state should divert the money to develop government institutions," he said.

Describing the dark side of globalisation, writer Banjagere Jayaprakash said the corporate sector was not free from casteism and other social evils. "Corporate companies do not respect the idea of social justice," he said.
