Mangaluru, DHNS: The District Kambala Committee will organise Kambala (buffalo race) at Kadalakere Kambala field in Moodbidri on January 28 as a mark of protest against the ban on the traditional sport.

At a meeting on Tuesday, District Jodukere Kambala Committee president Shantharam?Shetty said Kambala fans will assemble at Swaraj Maidan in Moodbidri and proceed towards Kadalakere field. About 150 buffaloes will take part.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel called upon people to shun differences and unitedly take part in the protests. In a notification, issued by the Centre on January 17, 2016, Kambala was excluded from Section 3 of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act. But a stay was imposed on it later. The matter will be raised in the upcoming Lok Sabha session, he said.
