Karnataka govt threatens to ban Sri Rama Sene

Bangalore: Karnataka government today warned the controversial right wing outfit Sri Rama Sene that it would be banned if indulges in illegal activities.

"We will ban Sri Rama Sene as it was done by the Manohar Parrikar government in Goa after police gave an adverse report about its activities," State Home Minister K J George told reporters here.

Sri Rama Sene was banned from operating in Goa on August 20. Sene chief Pramod Muthalik had recently expressed his intention to set up base in Goa to "curb the pub culture".

The organisation had gained notoriety in 2009 after its members were blamed for the attack on boys and girls at a pub in Mangalore in Karnataka in an act of moral policing.

Also a demand has come forth from the Goa unit of the Congress to ban the Hindutva outfit in Karnataka for its "opposition to secular culture" and for threatening to close down pubs and night clubs in Goa.

On former BJP Minister and Hukkeri MLA Umesh Katti's remarks on separate statehood for backward northern Karnataka, George said it is not proper to raise such a demand and the progress of the state lies in development of that region.
