Kasturba Hospital gets ‘mercury-free’ certificate

Manipal, (THe Hindu): Kasturba Hospital, has moved from conventional mercury-based equipment to safer digital instruments.

A statement issued by the hospital here on Friday said that the dial type BP apparatus and digital infra-red thermometers are accurate and do not pose any environmental hazards.

C.G. Muthana, Chief Operating Officer, and Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, received a ‘mercury-free hospital’ declaration certificate from M. Dayanandam former Medical Superintendent and COO, Kasturba Hospital.

“Shifting to digital devices ensures that there is no mercury based poisonous waste which is generated from the hospital,” said Dr. Shetty.
