Khader to seek Rs 8 cr for Fisheries College building

Bengaluru, (DHNS): District Minister U T Khader promised to recommend to the state government to release Rs 8 crore for the construction of golden jubilee building of Fisheries College in Mangaluru.

He was speaking at the golden jubilee Fishco Fest 2018, a three-day inter-college literary, cultural and fine arts competitions for the students of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Monday.

The minister stressed the need to take up research in fisheries sector. "The fisheries college faculty members should impart training for local fishermen on use of latest technology for fish catch. Further, there is a need to provide information on market facilities, using the latest technology in boat manufacturing and on floating jetty.

The faculty members should prepare project keeping in mind next 50 years." Fisheries College Dean Dr H Shivanandamurthy said the Fisheries College is the first college in the state which has completed 50 years. The faculties in the college have taken up research on integrated pisciculture, marine resource, cultivating fish, preparation of fish delicacies, value addition in marine products, and shrimp disease testing kit.

The three-day event will have competitions in dumb charade, quiz, debate, pick-and-speak, light music, film song, group song, folk dance, classical dance, western music, group dance, Bharatnatyam, drawing, rangoli, mime, collage, clay modelling, fashion show, battle of bands, cartooning and mad ads among others.
