Law soon to allow pvt buses on 2,830 routes

Bengaluru, (DHNS): The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to bring in a legislation to temporarily override a Supreme Court order that had cancelled as many as 2,830 bus routes across Karnataka operated by private players.

Sources said that the bus routes had been cancelled by the top court as those overlapped with the routes operated by state-owned transport corporations. But since state-owned transport corporations are not in a position to immediately operate buses on these cancelled routes, the government will bring in a legislation to allow private players to temporarily operate on these routes.

The existing permits will be cancelled and temporary permits provided until state-owned transport corporations make alternative arrangements, the sources added.

In another decision, the Cabinet approved an insurance scheme for cows and buffaloes. The insurance will be between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000 per animal. Forty per cent of the premium will be paid by the government and 30 per cent each by milk co-operative societies and the beneficiary.

The Cabinet also approved guidelines for implementation of the ‘Pashu Bhagya’ scheme which entails providing subsidy to small and marginal farmers to establish cattle, sheep, goat, pig, poultry units by obtaining loans up to Rs 1.20 lakh from commercial banks.

Besides, the Cabinet approved providing basic amenities to devotees at Chamundi Hills in Mysuru at a cost of Rs 79.9 crore. Another decision by the Cabinet was to directly transfer refund of sales tax to bank accounts of fishermen.
