Mangaluru doctor third Indian to be chosen for Asian award

Mangaluru, (The Hindu): He will receive it on August 28. City-based paediatrician Santosh Soans has been selected as one of the recipients of the prestigious “Outstanding Asian Paediatrician Award 2018” instituted by the Asia Pacific Paediatric Association.

A release here said that the award is being given in recognition of the recipients’ outstanding contribution to the field of paediatrics. Along with India, Asia Pacific Paediatric Association has 26 countries, including Australia, Japan, China, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Dr. Soans, who is national president of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, is the third Indian so far to receive the award to be given on August 28 at Peninsula Island in Nusa Dua-Bali, Indonesia, the release said.

It coincides with the 16th Asia Pacific Congress of Paediatrics 2018, ninth Annual Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Paediatric Society and the sixth Asia Pacific Congress of Paediatric Nursing, to be held from August 23 to 29.

A native of Kundapur, Dr. Soans is an alumnus of Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru and Manipal. He is now serving AJ Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangaluru, as Professor and Head of the Department of Paediatrics.
