Bengaluru, (DHNS): Light to moderate rain lashed several parts of state on Saturday, while it rained incessantly in Uttara Kannada district since Friday night.

Bhatkal, Honnavar and Kumta in Uttara Kannada district received uninterrupted rain between Friday night and Saturday evening. Water level rose in several ponds and streams while some minor bridges were submerged. Bhatkal recorded 85 mm of rain. While Siddapur received heavy rain till noon, it rained intermittently in Ankola, Haliyal and Dandeli. There was cloudy weather in Mundgod.

A lane in Padmanabhanagar of Karwar was flooded following the downpour. On learning about the incident, CMC commissioner and other officials rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Intermittent rain continued to lash Dakshina Kannada on Saturday. In the past 24 hours, Mangaluru received 54.1 mm rainfall followed by Bantwal 33.5 mm, Puttur 30.4 mm, Belthangady 21.3 mm and Sullia 20 mm.

Heavy rain lashed Mangaluru on Friday night and continued on Saturday also.

The monsoon intensified in Kodagu district with the region receiving continuous rain since morning. Madikeri, Mandalpatti and K Nidugani received heavy rain while Napoklu, Bhagamandala and Talacauvery experienced intermittent rain. Over 500 roof tiles of Old Fort in Madikeri were damaged by gusty winds.

There was intermittent rainfall in several parts of Shivamogga district. Shivamogga, Bhadravathi, Thirthahalli and Sagar received light rain, intermittently, throughout the day. Hosanagar received moderate rain since morning.

Chikkodi, Raibag, Ramdurg, Bailhongal, Belagavi city and surrounding villages received good rain, bringing a huge relief to farmers.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Kalaburagi district on Friday night. Jewargi taluk received the highest average rainfall of 32.86 mm followed by Aland 30.74 mm. Narona in Aland taluk received the highest rainfall of 56 mm. No loss of life or damage to property has been reported from anywhere in the district.

The rain has kindled hopes in farmers,who were in distress owing to severe drought. The rain triggered agricultural activities and sowing is likely to go on till the end of this month.

The Agriculture department has been distributing seeds thorough 149 centres.

Officials of the Agriculture Department said there was adequate availability of seeds in the market apart from the seeds being supplied by the departments.
