Mysuru glistens in Dasara glory as Jamboo Savari nears

Mysuru, (DHNS): The City of Palaces is all set for the final leg of ‘Naada Habba’ Dasara, the Jamboo Savari, on Friday, October 19.

The Navaratri celebrations were launched atop the Chamundi Hill by philanthropist Sudha Murty on October 10.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will launch the Jamboo Savari on Mysuru Palace premises, by offering floral tributes to the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, placed inside
the 750-kg golden howdah, mounted on elephant Arjuna during the auspicious ‘Kumbha Lagna,’ between 3.40 pm and 4.10 pm.

Earlier, the chief minister will offer puja to Nandi Dhwaja near the Balarama Gate of Mysuru Palace during the auspicious Kumbha Lagna between 2.30 pm and at 3.16 pm. The member of the erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will be the chief guest for the event along with a host of ministers, including G T Devegowda and Sa Ra Mahesh.

While Arjuna will be the major attraction as he carries the golden howdah on his back, the 60-year-old Balarama, who has carried the howdah on 13 occasions, will be the ‘Nishaane Aane’, the pilot elephant. A total of 12 elephants will participate in the procession. Ahead of Vijayadashami procession, the elephants along with the police troupes, took part in the final round of rehearsal on Wednesday.

Tableaux, art troupes
This time, as many as 42 tableaux and several art troupes will be part of the procession. Except for Kodagu Zilla Panchayat, all other 29 ZPs will participate in the procession with their tableaux on different themes. In addition, the Higher Education Department has come up with a tableau of state universities. The tableau of the Golden Temple in Periyapatna will be the other attraction.

Torchlight parade
The torchlight parade will be held at Bannimantap Grounds at 8 pm. Governor Vajubhai Wala will receive the guard of honour on the occasion. This time, the seating capacity at Bannimantap Grounds is increased by 10,000. As many as 32,000 people can be accommodated there.

Ayudha Puja
On Ayudha Puja, several programmes have been scheduled at the Palace main stage. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will perform the rituals.
