PU students academics plans shattered

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Chemistry re-exam postponed following a question paper leak again. Staff of Paduà PU College found it hard to console Ebanella, a second year PU student, whose plans to reach her native in Meghalaya and write the All India Institute of Medical Sciences entrance examination have been spoiled after Thursday’s Chemistry re-examination was postponed following a question paper leak for the second time.

For the second time, Ms. Ebanella had to cancel her train tickets, once when the examination was postponed first and now for the second time. She was to travel from Bengaluru on April 1 and then to write the AIIMS entrance test on April 9.

“The authorities have played with my future. I am losing a chance to write AIMS because of this,” she said and broke down.

Disappointed students said, “We hold the Pre University Department solely responsible. They have failed to take steps to prevent question paper leak the way the Central Board of Secondary Education has done,” said Deon Fleming from Padua College.

The State government should have directed the PU Board to evaluate the answer sheets of the chemistry paper that they have already written. “It is unfortunate that we are being asked to write the examination once again on April 12,” Mr. Fleming said.

Akshaya M. from St. Aloysius College said that with the question paper leak for the second time students have lost zeal to prepare again for a re-examination. This has affected their plans to prepare for the Joint Entrance Examination (mains) that is scheduled on April 3.

It has also affected their preparation for the Common Entrance Test scheduled in May, she said.

Members of various students organisations carried out protests in front of the office of the Deputy Director of Pre University Education.

Protests were also held near the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
