Polling to Vitla, Kotekar panchayats peaceful

Mangaluru (The Hindu): Elections to the newly constituted Vitla and Kotekar town panchayats in Dakshina Kannada was held peacefully on Sunday.

The counting will be conducted on April 27.

If Vitla Town Panchayat recorded 73.71 per cent polling, Kotekar Town Panchayat recorded 67.27 per cent voting.


Of the total 13,516 voters in Vitla panchayat, 9,963 voted and of the 13,160 voters under the Kotekar panchayat, 8,853 exercised their franchise, according to the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Of the 17 wards under Kotekar Town Panchayat, Congress candidate Mohiuddin Kunhi has been elected unopposed. The election was conducted for the remaining 16 wards which had 43 contestants. In all, 43 candidates are in the fray for 18 wards under the Vitla Town Panchayat.

The polling was conducted from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
