Mangaluru, (The Hindu): A portion of the tiled roof of the old building of Ullal Railway Station collapsed on Friday following reported weak wooden scaffolding supporting the tiled roof.

The building had been abandoned and ticket issuing counter was shifted to a new building constructed next to the old building, said a senior engineer from the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway. The Mangaluru Railway Region, however, had sent a proposal to the Division to erect a new roof for the structure so that the building could be used as passenger waiting hall/ concourse.

Once the Division approves the Rs.10 lakh proposal, the work would start and the passengers would get the benefit, the engineer said.
