Chitradurga, DHNS: Activists of Rajaveera Madakari Nayaka Gourava Samrakshana Vedike staged a protest with pestle models and the Vedike’s flag against Tipu Jayanti at Madakari Circle in the town on Wednesday.

The protesters also voiced their angst against the police who did not allow them to hold a procession with real pestles. At the time of submitting a memorandum to the DC, some workers were seen holding models of pestles.

During the protest, the police and the protesters argued over the issue. The BJP?leaders requested the police to allow them to hold a peaceful protest.

Hundreds of policemen, inspectors and DySPs from Shivamogga, Davangere and Haveri districts had been deployed for security in view of the protest. The Hiriyur police stopped MLC and actor Tara Anuradha, who was heading to the town to take part in the protest, at Javanagondanahalli on the district border.

The police also took several women, members of some Hindu organisations and BJP workers, who were coming to the city from Challakere and Hosadurga to take part in the protest, into custody.
