Mysuru, DHNS: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Tuesday that he prayed for good rains and prosperity in the state as there is drought for a couple of years now. He said that the rains before the Nandi Dhwaja puja, offered in front of the North Gate of the Palace to begin the Jamboo Savari, was a good sign.
After offering the puja, he said that the rains continued for over four hours till he offered floral tributes to the deity of Goddess Chamundeshwari placed inside the golden howdah, mounted on elephant Arjuna.
Yatindra with CM
Siddaramaiah, who inaugurated the Jamboo Savari four times in the recent past, a first since S M Krishna demitted office, also visited Chamundi Hill in the morning and offered puja to Goddess Chamundeshwari. Later, he visited the Mysuru branch of the Suttur Mutt and met seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swami. His son Dr Yatindra accompanied him and took the blessings of the seer.
Ministers, Yaduveer skip fete
Except for Umashree, ministers from other districts did not attend the Jamboo Savari, unlike in the previous years. Scion of the erstwhile royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar was also conspicuous by his absence. According to Palace sources, he could not attend the event as the rituals connected with his ‘Vijayayatre’ after Banni puja concluded only around 3 pm. However, some officials, on condition of anonymity, said that the members of the erstwhile royal family were unhappy with the way in which the government handled the ‘Garikemala’ issue. The tahsildar had lodged a complaint with the police when the members of the family tried to fence a portion of the Doddakere Maidan, which they claim was a land called ‘Garikemala’.
