Bengaluru, (DHNS): Bengalureans, who have been fretting over the rising temperature, experienced pleasant weather over the last two days with the mercury below normal due to cool and strong winds and cloudy skies.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast isolated rainfall over coastal and south interior Karnataka over the next two to three days coupled with strong winds and a dip in temperatures.

Till 5.30 pm on Tuesday, the city recorded a maximum and minimum of 31.6 and 20.1 degrees Celsius, respectively, while HAL recorded a maximum and minimum of 31.4 and 18 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The maximum and minimum temperatures on Monday in Bengaluru were 32.5 and 20.1 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature was 0.3 degrees less than normal while the minimum temperature was 0.3 degrees Celsius above normal. The maximum and minimum temperatures at HAL airport were 32.6 and 18 degrees Celsius respectively.

Sunder M Metri, IMD-Bengaluru director-in-charge said the change in weather is because of the formation of various systems. He said rain in March is not unusual for the city.

In March 2017, Bengaluru received 47.8 mm rainfall. In March 2016 and 2015, the city recorded 19.9 mm and 37.7 mm rainfall respectively. The highest ever rainfall recorded in March was 101.2 mm in 1981.

According to IMD, there is a low-pressure area over the equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining south-west Bay of Bengal and south Sri Lanka coast. This has now become a deep depression over the south-east Arabian Sea and adjoining the equatorial Indian Ocean. This is likely to move north-westwards and intensify into a deep depression in the next 48 hours. Under the influence of these systems, rain and thundershowers are forecast over Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

This will also have an impact on temperatures of south interior and coastal Karnataka, Metri said.

IMD has forecast squalls and gusty winds with speeds of 45-65 kmph over Lakshwadeep, adjoining the south-east Arabian Sea, Kerala coast, Comorin area and along the south of Tamil Nadu. Rough to very rough sea conditions have also been forecast over Comorin-Maldives area and over Lakshwadeep area. A warning has also been issued to fishermen along the coasts of south India.
