Rain throws life out of gear in N-K dists

Bengaluru, (DHNS): After a break of almost a week, heavy rain pounded Dharwad city in the afternoon. Roads in the city were waterlogged, causing inconvenience for pedestrians and vehicle users. The showers, which started at 3 pm, lasted for more than one hour. The PB road near NTTF was completely waterlogged and caused traffic jam for some time. The rainwater gushed into several low-lying areas and people had a tough time draining the water out.

City corporation workers used pumpsets to drain out the water. Power supply was hit in many parts of the city. Rural areas of Dharwad taluk too received good rain, bringing cheers to the farmers. This rain was very much needed for the farmers as they had prepared their fields for rabi sowing.

Vegetables and other items on sale at the weekly fair were damaged due to heavy rain at Maski in Raichur district. Farmers who had come to sell their produce, the traders and the buyers were put to inconvenience.

Residents faced miseries as water gushed into low-lying areas.

Showers brought the temperatures down at Kavital town in Manvi taluk of the district on Sunday afternoon. Waterlogging affected movement of vehicles on the city’s roads. Citizens in low-lying areas faced a tough time as water entered their houses. Water gushed into the government boys higher primary school and the Gescom office.

Belagavi city and surrounding areas continued to receive a few spells of rain on Sunday. Yamakanamaradi in Hukkeri, Kittur and Harugeri in Raibag taluk witnessed drizzles. Athani town received heavy showers for half an hour.

The heavy rains brought smiles on the faces of farmers. The Kallol-Yadur bridge in Belagavi district continued to remain submerged in water. Due to heavy rains in the catchment areas of River Krishna, the inflow and outflow was 65,000 cusecs.
