Survey of 1,000 madrasas from today

Published On : 01 Feb 2016

Bengaluru, DHNS: The Islamic Educational Board of India (IEBI), Karnataka chapter, will undertake a survey of madrasas in the State and bring out a detailed database to provide students the best of mainstream education and religious learning.

On Sunday, the board organised a special conference of ‘Ulema Mashaikh’ (Islamic spiritual scholars) from all districts of Karnataka, as a first step to compile the data.

“The survey will start on Monday itself. We aim to bring a new IEBI syllabus in these institutions through such an effort,” said B R Abdul Wajid, media coordinator, IEBI, Karnataka chapter.

The board is expecting no less than 1,000 madrasas in different districts of the State to come under its fold. It also plans to train a number of teachers with the help of district-level committees of Islamic scholars and mosque administrators.

In addition, there is a plan to offer online Islamic education to young students, housewives and all others who seek to obtain orderly and authentic sessions on the Qur’an and the Hadith.

A plan of action for the year 2016 and a long-term plan for the next five years were also discussed at the conference.

In December last year, the board had decided to introduce its own curriculum in around 10,000 madrasas across Karnataka.

A press release from the board said that so far a number of madrasas in Bengaluru, Vijayapura, Davangere and other districts had adopted the new syllabus and textbooks prescribed by the IEBI, which were different from those in vogue.

“The IEBI syllabus and textbooks from standard 1 to 12 in different languages have a step-by-step approach with theory as well as practical sessions. Trained teachers handle these subjects. These teachers are in turn trained by the IEBI at our campus in Banashankari, Bengaluru,” the release added.
