Bengaluru, (DHNS): Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday warned of “strict action” against those who take the law into their hands to thwart Tipu Sultan Jayanti scheduled to be held on November 10.
“The way BJP leaders are behaving seems like an attempt to disturb communal harmony. We won’t allow people to become law unto themselves,” Siddaramaiah told reporters when asked to comment on the BJP threatening to launch a protest against the Jayanti.
“Dressed as Tipu and wielding a sword, Yeddyurappa swore by Allah that he would never join the BJP. He was then in the Karnataka Janata Party.
“The then chief minister Jagadish Shettar and his deputy CM R Ashoka were also dressed as Tipu. Shettar had even written a foreword in a book about Tipu. Their objection to Tipu Jayanti now, as the polls are nearing, shows their double standards,” Siddaramaiah said.
“Wasn’t Tipu Sultan, who was born in Devanahalli, a Kannadiga? Did he not fight four wars against the British? He may be a Muslim, but is it a lie that he laid down his life fighting the British? No one should twist history,” Siddaramaiah said.
