Uproar over KSE's remark on minorities

Published On : 29 Mar 2017

Bengaluru, DHNS: Leader of the Opposition in the Council K S Eshwarappa’s comments on Tuesday pertaining to the minorities led to an uproar as Congress and JD(S) members took exception to it and demanded an apology from him.

When Rizwan Arshad(Cong) sought to know why the BJP had not given a ticket to any Muslim to contest Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Eshwarappa said it is his party’s policy to give tickets to only those who vote in its favour. “No vote, no seat. This is the policy of our party.”

When Eshwarappa claimed that all sections of society, including Muslims, have voted for the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Rizwan said the party then should give proper representation to the community in the government. In response, Eshwarappa made a remark which was expunged by Chairman D?H?Shankarmurty, as the Congress and the JD(S) members were upset.

The JD(S) members, including Syed Mudeer Aga and Saravana staged a dharna, demanding an apology from the BJP leader. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also demanded an apology from Eshwarappa, who refused to do so. Congress and BJP members indulged in heated exchanges
