Bengaluru, DHNS: With the onset of monsoon, heavy rains have continued to lash various parts of the state brining cheer to agriculturists. However, the downpours have also thrown life out of gear in many towns and cities with serious damage being caused to roads.

Intermittent rains continued to lash various parts of Shivamogga district on Saturday. Shivamogga, Shikaripur, Hosanagar and Bhadravathi received a good spell of rains throughout the day. Sagar and Sorab received moderate rainfall. The rains that started in the afternoon lashed Hosanagar for hours. It rained again heavily in the evening but the intensity of the rains in the district was lesser than the past few days.

Badami taluk in Bagalkot district received a heavy downpour on Saturday afternoon. The fields were inundated with rain and water collected in puddles. Kankanakoppa and Kabbalageri streams were engorged with water which flowed over the banks. The copious rainfall brought cheer to farmers who have been involved in sowing operations.

The heavy rainfall that has lashed Kumta for the past four days has caused the collapse of the edge of the national Highway near Maneeru. The rainwater has carried away the mud to the Aghanashini river, posing a grave danger to the commuting vehicles. Kumta in Uttara Kannada district has recorded 254.4 mm rainfall so far, while last year, 181.10 mm of rainfall had been recorded till June 11, 2015.

Nargund in Gadag district received heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon. While the rains brought cheer to the farmers, it threw the lives of the people out of gear. The drains in the town overflowed and people were forced to walk around in dirty, stinking water. Roads, including the National Highway, were inundated causing problems for commuting vehicles. Many fields were covered under water leading to the collapse of embankments. Mysuru received moderate rainfall towards evening
